Meet the Artist
Deirdre Imus is a self taught, Texas based artist. The death of her husband has brought her back to her childhood of painting, dreaming and creating a life on the canvas. Since 2021 she has created a technique she calls Stranding: “strand of emotion painting” where the feeling is painted; not the horse, not the cowboy but the sustaining provocative emotional substance.
“I’m not interested in painting the horse as it actually appears. I’m merely painting the attitude, emotion, remnant.”
The existential purpose and meaning of life is asked in each of her paintings. She’s interested in the human condition and it’s arc through history with the horse… the connected divine quality that we possess carrying us through sorrow, suffering, love and relationships that make and break us.
The Horse:
I paint horses because…
They’re the great cosmos of everything.
They’ve taken us to battles and wars.
They are the great teachers of the plains
And pastures
And mountains on this beautiful earth.
They ground us and teach us about ourselves.
They humble us, complete us
Compete With us And For us.
They make us feel,
Even when numb.
They are the secret healers
The true mystics,
The zen
And full throttle
In us all.
They are
Strength
Resilience
Courage
Beauty
Love
Compassion
Pureness of heart
Vulnerable
Fragile
True warriors
Cherish the horse.
